Celtic fans have the chance to look forward to a title party in their upcoming fixture against St Johnstone.

The earliest Celtic can win the league is on the 6th of April at McDiarmid Park, but only if Brendan Rodgers can take care of Rangers on Sunday and then Hearts after the international break.

Celtic fans will have been thinking about the clamour to get tickets for that game after the Perth club cut the travelling Parkhead supports’ allocation earlier this season.

However, yesterday St Johnstone backpedalled on the Celtic ticket allocation stance, and now, the Hoops support will have three stands to fill for the potential April title party.

Explaining the decision, St Johnstone CEO Fran Smith had a message to his supporters as well as the Celtic fans for the Scottish Premiership game.

St Johnstone CEO is looking forward to ‘welcoming’ Celtic fans to McDiarmid Park

St Johnstone claimed in their statement that ‘safety concerns’ were the driving force behind their decision to grant Celtic fans three McDiarmid Park stands.

However, further down the lengthy statement, the real reason becomes apparent. Money. No matter because the news is good for Celtic fans as Saints CEO Smith, sends the travelling support a message.

Smith told The Courier, “We understand that this is a topic of strong opinion amongst our fan base and acknowledge that some will be disappointed by this news.

“Please be assured, as a board, we have made this decision with the club’s best interests at heart.

“As mentioned in our statement, this is not a definitive position and we will continue to monitor and assess it moving forward.

“We look forward to welcoming them to McDiarmid Park and Hampden Park for some key fixtures in the coming weeks.”

Celtic’s impressive record vs St Johnstone doesn’t bode well for Perth club

Celtic have been absolutely dominant in Scotland since the Martin O’Neill era began in 2000. Since then the Parkhead club have racked up trebles, doubles and an Invicibles season under Brendan Rodgers.

But against St Johnstone, the Hoops have been relentless.

In 80 fixtures between the two clubs since 1998, Celtic has a 78.8% win rate. So with that in mind, here are the stats behind the Scottish champions’ relentless winning record against the McDiarmid Park club.

In those wins, Celtic have recorded two 7-0 victories and two 6-0 wins with the last defeat coming, ironically, against Brendan Rodgers back in 2016 in a 2-1 defeat at McDiarmid Park.

All the odds are that Celtic will win on the 6th of April and with a huge travelling support behind them, it could be by a large margin once again.
