‘Stop doing that’ – Adam Idah’s actions slammed following the conclusion of Celtic’s season

Adam Idah has completed his first full season in Celtic colours, and he has helped the team secure two more trophies.

When Idah first joined Celtic during the 2024 January transfer window, he arrived on a loan deal from Norwich City and proceeded to score the winning goal in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers.

Whilst goals against Rangers occurred before and after that Hampden winner, that moment remains the Irishman’s biggest moment under Brendan Rodgers thus far.

But it’s fair to say that Idah has divided opinion following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, especially with Rodgers looking for more firepower after Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit.

And now, Frank McAvennie has had some strong words for the 24-year-old.

Adam Idah told to get on with his business after Celtic’s season concludes

Idah has defended himself, amid criticism of how many goals he has scored, his performances, and the transfer fee he was brought in for.

But McAvennie isn’t happy with his actions, and he told him to ‘stop bragging about it’ and ‘just go about your business’, as he told the Let Me Be Frank Podcast.

Looking at the other side of the coin, McAvennie did note that when Idah returned to the club last summer, he didn’t have a pre-season under his belt.

“I would say Maeda (with) Jota (out injured),” responded McAvennie on who the number nine belongs to. “I know he does (Adam Idah believes it’s his).

“He didn’t get a pre-season last year. He’s now doing a pre-season. He is in with the boys. Now, this is his time. He is dividing the fans.

“Stop saying, ‘for the amount of games I played. I have scored great goals’. Stop doing that. Just go about your business. Stop bragging about it. Go and do it by scoring 40.”

Does Idah have a point? Stats for 2024/25 season

It needs to be noted that Maeda went goal crazy during the second half of the season, but that was the first time in his Celtic career that he became clinical.

The 27-year-old has been in Scotland since 2022 and has always been a nightmare to play against, with the only missing ingredient being that clinical nature, but now he has brought it to the table.

If Maeda can have the time to develop, then so should Idah, especially given the minutes he played last season compared to the Japan star.

But saying that, everyone knows that the pressure is going to ramp up on Idah next season, and fans will be less forgiving.
