Celtic’s win over Aberdeen helps to put some breathing space between the Parkhead club and Rangers.
Brendan Rodgers took his team to Pittodrie knowing that if Celtic beat Aberdeen then a four-point gap to Rangers would open up.
However, transfer business was still on Stiliyan Petrov’s mind as the Champions League qualifier looms in just over a week.
And as the Hoops icon spoke about investment needed in the Celtic first-team on Sky Sports, Kris Boyd tried, and failed, to knock Petrov’s old club.

Kris Boyd slapped down as Stiliyan Petrov says Celtic need Champions League investment
Speaking on Sky Sports after Celtic beat Aberdeen, Petrov says his old club need investment for the upcoming Champions League qualifier and slapped down Boyd’s usual chipping at the club.
When asked if Celtic are Champions League ready Petrov said, “I’ll say no. I think Brendan Rodgers deserves to ask for players to add players. That’s what strong managers do.
“I believe a strong manager should not just improve the team, you should improve the board as well. You should push for better.
“We talk about developing Celtic making sure that he’s spending in the right areas and I do think he needs help.
“He probably wants to rest Maeda or rest Hatate, get the opportunity to replace them with the same quality, and to do that, you have to spend money.”
Boyd: “He spent money last year, though. Trusty can’t get a game. Engels can’t get a game. Idah I don’t think he would play if he was…”
Petrov: “But that’s what big teams do. You have to add constantly. That’s what you have to do. And if you want to progress into the Champions League and do well again, you have to add. You can’t stand still.
“Unfortunately, football doesn’t stand still. And fair play to him. He does ask for players. I believe they will buy players.
“I think the board will back him up, but there’s another three weeks to go anyway.”
Celtic’s latest transfer news
As 67 Hail Hail published earlier today, there is nothing much to report on Celtic’s latest transfer rumours.
Etienne Youte is said to be ‘open’ to leaving Le Havre this summer but, as yet, there has been no further links to Celtic.
Liverpool youngster Stefan Bajcetic has been tipped as the man to replace Callum McGregor in the future but that’s just Peter Grant talking after hearing unsubstantiated rumours linking the youngster to Celtic.
As Petrov says, there are still three weeks to go and Celtic fans will be watching, and waiting, to see what the club comes up with for Brendan Rodgers before the transfer window closes in September.
