‘That’s what Celtic showed’ – Vincent Kompany sounds wary of the Bhoys ahead of Bayern Munich match

Celtic faces Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League playoff.

The Bhoys lost 2-1 to Munich last Wednesday at Celtic Park after conceding on either side of halftime through goals by Michael Olise and Harry Kane.

However, Daizen Maeda pulled one back for Celtic to give Brendan Rodgers a slim chance of pulling off a memorable Champions League result in the Allianz Arena.

Undoubtedly, asking the Hoops to go to Munich and win by two clear goals is a huge ask, but in football, you just never know what can happen and nothing can be taken for granted.

And that seems to be on Vincent Kompany’s mind as the Bayern Munich boss talked up Celtic ahead of the 8pm kick-off tonight.

Vincent Kompany wary of ‘really dangerous’ Celtic ahead of Bayern Munich clash

Speaking at Bayern Munich’s pre-match press conference, Kompany said, “I think when you play against teams who are used to being very dominant in their leagues and who are used to scoring a lot of goals, what you naturally have you have a team who has a real sense of how to score goals.

“So it is always dangerous going forward and that’s what Celtic showed. On the day I thought we dealt with it pretty well but the second half of that still has to be played the parameters haven’t changed.

“It’s a team that’s really dangerous going forward, so are we. It’s a home game and we will look to make that play to our advantage as well.”

What Vincent Kompany said about Celtic after last Champions League tie

Kompany has been nothing but respectful about Celtic since both clubs were drawn together in the Champions League.

At the weekend the Bayern boss spoke about how Celtic put up a ‘huge fight in Glasgow’ as the Belgian clearly still has the first leg experience on his mind.

After that match, Kompany said of Celtic, “I know this place and I know it transcends performance sometimes,” the head coach said.

“I felt we dealt really well with it for long spells of the game, we didn’t let the game go crazy, and then the last 10 minutes we had to defend and we did that well as well.

“You can feel in those moments if the game comes alive it’s a special place.

“I think overall if you look in general – and I don’t want to draw too many conclusions because we have to see each other in one week again – but if you look at the squad, Celtic has always been a fantastic platform for players who are building their careers to the very, very top.

“They’ve got players who serve the club very loyally who do well for many years and represent the DNA of the club and the fans.

“But it’s very clear to me that it’s always, from a football side, a very exciting outfit always.”
