Another striker in the building for Celtic.
On Saturday, as Celtic put four goals past Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly, the club took the opportunity to introduce their latest signing, Shin Yamada.
This is Celtic’s seventh signing of the 2025 summer transfer window, including their second acquisition from the J-League after Hayato Inamura joined from Albirex Niigata.
Yamada signs from Kawasaki Frontale, and now he is one of several strikers Brendan Rodgers can pick from ahead of the new season.

What Shin Yamada shouted to the Celtic Park crowd against Newcastle United
Celtic introduced Yamada onto the Paradise turf against Newcastle, and as expected, he was given a loud cheer when he took to the pitch.
Whilst Kieran Tierney’s return perhaps generated the loudest noise of the afternoon, including louder than the four goals that were scored.
There was also a loud cheer when Yamada was asked if he had any words for the fans, and he delivered a simple yet sharp response that the supporters just loved.
‘Come on the Hoops,” shouted Yamada. “Hail Hail.’
Celtic’s striker options
Rodgers still wants another striker, and that makes everything very interesting heading into the new campaign.
You also have to include the fact that Johnny Kenny has been the standout striker in pre-season, including scoring against Newcastle.
But surely, somewhere, something or someone has to give, especially if another senior number nine enters the Celtic Park building.
Players who can play up front for Celtic:
- Daizen Maeda
- Adam Idah
- Johnny Kenny
- Callum Osmand
- Shin Yamada
