The latest on Cameron Carter-Vickers Celtic injury after Nat Phillips disappoints vs Kilmarnock

Cameron Carter-Vickers didn’t make the starting line-up for Celtic’s trip to Kilmarnock on Sunday with Brendan Rodgers instead opting to play Nat Phillips.

Carter-Vickers was substituted at half-time during the recent win over Hibernian and subsequently sat out training while the club waited on the results of an MRI scan concerning his hamstring.

That meant the team prepared with Phillips in the heart of defence alongside Scales. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a great afternoon for Celtic or the Liverpool loanee.

Phillips struggled with the challenge of Killie in the second half at Rugby Park and it was the defender who scored an own goal in the 75th minute to draw the home side level on their way to a 2-1 victory.

The performance has left fans hoping that Carter-Vickers will return to the line-up soon. Thankfully, that appears to be on the cards.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers provides Carter-Vickers update

Rodgers said in a pre-match interview on Celtic TV: “He felt very tight on his hamstring. We had the scan, the scan was clear, which is good. Hopefully, he’ll be okay for the mid-week game [against Feyenoord].”

Carter-Vickers hasn’t been hitting the heights of last season either, but he undoubtedly improves the defensive line so it’ll be a boost to the team to have him return.

The Feyenoord match may not mean much in terms of consequence but fans are keen to see the team pick up a long overdue UEFA Champions League victory, with a couple of million pounds on the line too.

Most important is that the USA international is fully fit and able to back-up league performances throughout the rest of a busy December.

He’ll remain the go-to pick for Rodgers, especially with summer signings Maik Nawrocki and Gustaf Lagerbielke apparently no closer to match action.
