The next managerial steps for Celtic hero Scott Brown could be very interesting

Celtic favourite Scott Brown is unemployed after leaving Fleetwood Town recently.

The former Hoops skipper was relieved of his duties by the League One side in September, following a winless start to the season. It was evidence of how quickly things can change for a manager, with Brown being held in high regard just months prior.

Shortly after his dismissal, he released a lengthy statement on Instagram thanking those connected with Fleetwood. At the end, he included a short bit about his hopes for the future.

“I have really enjoyed my first experience as a manager and I look forward to taking what I have learned at Fleetwood into my next role in football,” Brown wrote.

Since then, he has been mentioned in connection with a couple of jobs. He was suggested as a potential option for Inverness Caledonian Thistle before Duncan Ferguson was appointed there.

Cheltenham Town were also named as a potential new destination for Brown before Gloucestershire Live ruled him out of the running.

So what is actually next for Brown? It seems from his recent statement that he fancies another shot in management. However, that may depend on the opportunities on offer.

Given that he did leave Fleetwood Town languishing near the bottom of League One, it’s hard to imagine Brown going into a job in the Championship. He may even have to drop down a little further for his next break or try his hand in Scotland.

With such a big reputation as a player north of the border, you could imagine Brown being a contender for virtually every job apart from Celtic, Rangers and Hearts. His name is likely to come up more and more as the season goes on.

For what it’s worth, we’d love to see him back in Scottish football. He could make a real impact here and the drama would be terrific. Better than going to another club in the lower leagues of English football.

Brown has already shown that he will take unconventional steps in order to reach his goals. Joining Aberdeen as a player-coach and Fleetwood as manager were both bold moves. His next one probably will be too.
