The ‘really cool’ Celtic moment fans created Alistair Johnston can’t stop watching on his phone

Celtic had a memorable season last year as Brendan Rodgers came within a whisker of winning another treble.

But for the disappointment of the Scottish Cup final, Celtic fans enjoyed another league title win and a superb League Cup final victory over Rangers at Hampden.

Rodgers also took Celtic out of the Champions League group stages and created history in Germany by picking up their first-ever draw against a Bundesliga club in the tournament.

But it was none of those moments that Alistair Johnston has stored on his phone as the Celtic defender recalls a record-breaking event that had the Hoops support deliver ‘one of the loudest roars’ he has ever heard.

Alistair Johnston is ‘buzzing’ for James Forrest to set new Celtic record

James Forrest created history last season with almost the last kick of the ball at Celtic Park as he scored the equalising goal against St Mirren on Trophy Day.

That goal marked an incredible run of the Hoops legend scoring a goal in every single Celtic season since he made his debut in 2010.

And Johnston is desperate for him to do it again today at Celtic Park against St Mirren.

Johnston told Celtic TV, “I’d be buzzing if we could do it against St Mirren again at home, just this time being the first match rather than the 38th.

“Look, it’s an unbelievable streak. That was again one of the loudest roars I’ve ever heard at Celtic Park and I’ve heard quite a few good ones.

“I think that goes to show how much he means to this fan base and this club. I think everyone realises what a living legend he is.

“So yeah, hopefully we can keep that streak going and obviously hopefully get it done a little bit earlier in the season so we’re not all desperately telling him to shoot at every possible opportunity for the last month of the season.

“But I have a good feeling that he’s going to get off the mark pretty quickly here.”

It was an incredible way to end the season and one that Johnston admits he can’t stop watching on his phone.

Johnston continued, “It definitely wasn’t shoot but there was never a doubt in my mind that I was going to shoot.

“Like I was never shooting that ball. I just had to try and line it up just enough to draw that defender in to think that I was, but it was always getting passed there.

“But as soon as I realised it was going to be him and watching him just walk onto it, I’ve seen him do it in training a 100 times.

“Just a lovely little connection, cut across it, and yeah, what a great moment that was. I think everyone really enjoyed that. And I think I’ve watched that clip back on my phone quite a few times just to hear that roar because it was it was really cool.”

Celtic have the opportunity to open up a two-point gap with a win against St Mirren after Rangers choked at Motherwell yesterday.

If Forrest gets the goal that earns the win, what a Beautiful Sunday it will be for the Celtic supporters.
