The SFA KMI panel’s ‘unanimous’ verdict on two Rangers vs Celtic VAR flashpoints

The first Glasgow Derby between Celtic and Rangers is still being talked about.

It’s quite bizarre considering Celtic’s draw at Ibrox was widely regarded as one of the worst derbies of recent memory.

Celtic played poorly and struggled to break down a Rangers defence that has been leaking goals for fun this season.

However, there were two controversial decisions made during the game that the SFA KMI Panel have now delivered their verdicts on and it should end the debate by Rangers fans that somehow, they were robbed of a win against Celtic.

The Rangers penalty decision vs Celtic

First up for the KMI panel was the decision not to award Rangers a penalty for the challenge of Liam Scales on Bojan Miovksi.

Mark Clattenburg told 67 Hail Hail that the decision by VAR and the on-field referee Don Robertson not to award the spot kick against Celtic was the correct one, but what did the KMI panel think.

The panel said on the SFA website, “The on-field decision was unanimously supported.” And the KMI Panel voted 3:0 in favour of the original decision.

The panel also concurred that the on-field decision was correct as well as the VAR outcome.

Next up for the panel was the decision to disallow Rangers’ goal due to an offside infringement by defender John Souttar.

The panel said, “The panel unanimously agreed that the on-field onside decision was incorrect. The panel highlighted VAR was correct to intervene and disallow the goal for offside.”

The vote was 3:0 in favour of the decision of VAR correctly overturning the decision.

So as every Celtic supporter knew already, the match referee and VAR did their job correctly and ensured the rules were applied fairly in the Glasgow Derby draw.
