Carl Starfelt won five major trophies during his time at Celtic.
In 2023, the 30-year-old opted to leave Celtic and join Spanish side Celta de Vigo, and he has recently been involved in a pretty unusual situation.
Usually, players are out of action due to suspension, injuries or the simple fact that the manager in question doesn’t want to play them.
But Starfelt was out of action in Vigo for reasons not many in his profession would have faced during their careers.

The mysterious reason why ex-Celtic star Carl Starfelt was sidelined for months
It’s an unusual and unique situation Starfelt found himself in, but after doctors in Vigo couldn’t come to a conclusion as to why he was constantly being sick.
It was determined that ‘severe mould’ was discovered in his house, and that environment was making him ‘seriously ill’, as posted by Albanian outlet The Telegrafi.
After moving out, Starfelt’s health soon changed, and the former Hoops star was in action as his Vigo side were beaten 4-2 by Barcelona in La Liga over the weekend.
Starfelt’s Celtic career in numbers
It could be argued that Celtic need a player like Starfelt now, especially with Cameron Carter-Vickers’ long-term injury and a lack of depth.
If either Auston Trusty or Liam Scales get injured now, then stand-in interim Martin O’Neill would be in a spot of bother.
Either way, Starfelt was an underrated player at Celtic, including winning the Treble under Hoops hero Ange Postecoglou.

- Draws: 8
