The ‘very, very good signing’ Peter Grant is telling Celtic to make alongside Kieran Tierney

Brendan Rodgers has already started preparing Celtic for next season.

The Hoops boss already has Kieran Tierney’s Celtic return all wrapped up and will, undoubtedly, be looking to add more strength to the team.

The Celtic first-team squad is very strong, however, as has been evident over the last few weeks, a couple of injuries can see that strength diluted somewhat.

With the deal over Tierney’s return to Paradise complete, Rodgers will need to find cover for the left-back position in the summer as Greg Taylor’s Celtic exit looks imminent.

And Celtic hero Peter Grant knows exactly who his old club should sign to do that job.

Jeffrey Schlupp could be ‘the saving grace’ for Celtic

Jeffrey Schlupp is out of contract at Crystal Palace this summer and Grant reckons he would be the perfect player for Celtic moving forward.

Grant told The Go Radio Football Show: “It depends. The one thing I said about Schlupp when he came in the first place is that he can play different positions.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he can play left centre-back as well. It gives you that balance and cover there. He can play left midfield, he can play up.

“There may be certain games Brendan thinks he needs power and a directness. He can play in that position of the pitch.

“It is not just a left-back he would be signing. He is a real good footballer. That could be the saving grace for Celtic.”

Schlupp would be a ‘very good’ signing for Celtic alongside Kieran Tierney

With Tierney undoubtedly coming to Celtic a the first-choice left back, Grant warns that that could be the difference maker on whether or not Schlupp will decide to stay in Paradise permanently or not.

Grant continued: “If you were saying he was a left-back and know Kieran [Tierney] was coming then I would think Jeffrey Schlupp is just putting himself in the window at this moment in time.

“If he thought he wasn’t going to be the number one left back, I don’t think he would sign at Celtic to be a squad player. I think he would go somewhere else to play games.

“I would see him as a player who can play in different positions and I think he would be a very, very good signing if that was the case.”

Schlupp admits Celtic appeals to him as a permanent move in the future and has said that he would take any offer seriously.

The Ghanaian is extremely versatile and experienced, and that could appeal to Rodgers and be a big motivator to urging the Celtic board to splash the cash for the former Leicester City man.
