The Celtic board are under serious pressure now.

With Celtic fan protests organised for today’s game against Kilmarnock, the Parkhead board are bracing themselves for more negative publicity this weekend.

Celtic’s summer transfer window was the tipping point as fans get together to vent their years of frustration at the lack of transparency on what the vision is for the club.

And now, after reading Celtic’s statement that was released last weekend, finance expert Kieran Maguire has hit out at the board’s ‘disingenuous’ UEFA claim.

Kieran Maguire explains UEFA rules to disprove Celtic’s transfer window claim

Celtic appeared to suggest that UEFA’s FFP rules as a reason for failing to invest properly in the Hoops first-team this summer.

That claim has been thrown out by Maguire who said that the club were being ‘disingenuous’.

Maguire told the BBC, “Celtic’s statement does seem a little bit disingenuous. UEFA rules allow clubs to spend 70% of their revenues on player wages. Celtic currently spend around 53%.

“UEFA rules also allow you to take into consideration player sale profits and add those to revenue, so Celtic have an awful lot of headroom should they choose to spend more in terms of player recruitment and retention.

“I’m a little bit confused as to the nature and the timing of the statement. It does appear to be very inconsistent with a detailed analysis of the figures.”

Celtic fan action vs Kilmarnock

As previously said, Celtic supporters will begin the first round of demonstrations against the board at Kilmarnock this afternoon.

A meeting was held on Wednesday night between Celtic Supporters Associations, fan groups, fan media and key stakeholders where it was agreed that a 12-minute late walk-in at Rugby Park would be staged this afternoon as a protest towards the Celtic board.

Travelling fans are being asked to take part in the protest but are not being told to do so. It’s entirely up to those Celtic fans who are heading to Kilmarnock on whether or not they want to participate in this form of action.

One thing is for sure, the media coverage this is getting already points to what is looking like will be an uncomfortable Sunday for the Celtic board.
