Exciting claim about what Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou will do next, as Spurs board are called out

The sacking culture has hit ridiculous heights in the modern game, but Tottenham have now taken it to another level.

Many saw Ange Postecoglou’s success at Celtic, as he walked into Glasgow with a swagger and ensured Rangers weren’t going to go anywhere after their title win under Steven Gerrard in 2021.

The 59-year-old then headed to Hotspur Way and joined Tottenham during the summer of 2023, with the same intentions, and put his neck on the line even further this season by telling the world, ‘I always win a trophy in my second season’.

Despite Spurs winning the Europa League in Bilbao last month, when they defeated Manchester United, Postecoglou was still sacked, as the crazy levels of how board members treat their managers went to another level.

Anyone with a Celtic persuasion has rightfully come out and defended Postecoglou, but even those from the outside are seeing the light.

Tim Sherwood fires shots as he defends Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham sacking

Daniel Levy is the man making the calls, or so it seems. He is the chairman of Tottenham, and he runs the ship from the top.

The English businessman has sacked many managers during his 25 or so years in the boardroom, including Tim Sherwood in 2014.

The former Premier League midfielder called out the Spurs board and suggested that they have ‘hidden agendas’, as he told Sky Sports.

Sherwood also made the exciting claim about how Postecoglou has been a ‘breath of fresh air’ since moving from Celtic, including how he will ‘lift more trophies’ at his next club.

“I am not surprised, to be perfectly honest,” said Sherwood. “It doesn’t mean that I agree with the decision.

“I feel sorry for Ange. He has been a breath of fresh air, that’s what he has been to the football club and the Premier League. He has been great for you guys as well.

“Ange Postecoglou had his eyes on one prize, and he has given the Tottenham fans and the Tottenham players, and himself, one of the greatest days in the history of the football club. You can never take that away from him. He can walk with his head held very, very high.

“He will go and get a job somewhere else, and go and lift more trophies somewhere else. I am sure of that.

“The thing I would like to know is, who is making the decision? They keep saying the board, who are the board? Are there any footballing people on that board? I am sure the club and the decision makers have been inundated with agents trying to throw them their clients from all around the world. It’s difficult, they obviously have hidden agendas.

“But Ange Postecoglou is a winner. The man stood up and said he ‘always wins’ in his second season, and he did it. You have to give him credit for that.

Postecoglou without Harry Kane

When Postecoglou first moved to London, Harry Kane was still at the club, a player regarded as one of Tottenham’s greatest ever players.

But the England captain left the same summer and secured a transfer to Bayern Munich.

Sherwood wanted to highlight how people, amid the criticism of Postecoglou, forget that he lost such a prominent figure, yet still finished fifth last term, and won a trophy this time around.

“Yeah, absolutely,” responded Sherwood on people forgetting that Spurs sold Kane when Ange joined. “It has been well-documented that he had a lot of injuries to key players, especially Micky van de Ven and Romero, for large parts of the season.

“You can’t take away from the man’s record. Yes, he has lost Harry Kane, one of the greatest strikers you have ever seen in the Premier League.

“He finished fifth without Harry Kane, and he has won a trophy this year without Harry Kane, so yes, you have to give him credit.”
