When the Wilfried Nancy to Celtic links first started doing the rounds, there were the usual detractors waiting to take a pop at him.

The Scottish media and some pundits questioned Nancy’s credentials for the Celtic job as many looked for reasons to snipe at the Parkhead club taking on a relatively unknown manager.

However, as detailed many times on 67 Hail Hail, Nancy has an excellent reputation in the States and many are tipping him to be a huge success at Celtic.

None more so than Tom Bogert who had to bat away a ridiculous question about Nancy’s success at Columbus Crew on Sky Sports.

Tom Bogert puts Sky Sports man straight about Celtic-bound Wilfried Nancy

Tom Bogert has been very vocal on social media about Wilfried Nancy’s qualities and when the Sky Sports presenter suggested that the Frenchman ‘punched above his weight’ in the MLS, the American journalist simply was not having that.

Bogert told Sky Sports Scotland, “So the team that he inherited missed the playoffs. I’m going to say things that sound like another language because of the convoluted nature of Major League Soccer.

“There are 15 teams in each of the conferences, nine of the 15 make the playoffs. For Columbus Crew to have missed the playoffs the year before, they had a better squad than that, but he inherited a team that was in flux.

“And immediately, in his first season, they win the title. And it wasn’t a fluke run, it wasn’t a lot of luck, it wasn’t set pieces, it wasn’t teams missing chances, they were the dominant team in MLS that season.

“It wasn’t a fluke run, it wasn’t a lot of luck, it wasn’t set pieces, it wasn’t teams missing chances, they were the dominant team in MLS that season.” 🤯

Wilfried Nancy made Columbus Crew ‘the best team’ in the MLS, ‘no question’

The home truths didn’t stop there as Bogert’s defence of Nancy continued.

The MLS expert said, “And they pretty much were, until Gusto Hernandez left the club, they were still very good over the last year or so.

“But when he [Nancy] had this team, they were the best team in Major League Soccer. And there’s no question.

“And that is a difficult thing to say, given all the parity and how wide this league is. It isn’t something where, typically, you could say there’s a dominant team.”

From all that Celtic supporters have been hearing about Nancy, this is probably the most exciting endorsement of the 48-year-old yet.

And we cannot wait to see how he does in the Celtic dugout.
