It’s not easy playing for a club the size of Celtic.
That has been proven heading into the new 2025/26 Premiership season, after Brendan Rodgers guided Celtic to the double last term.
That’s four trophies in his second spell in charge, and on paper, you would presume that everything is rosy in the garden, but think again.
Several Hoops players were under fire last season despite Celtic’s success; they are still having to take verbal hits.
Whilst many talk about Adam Idah, the Open Goal panel wanted to come to the aid of centre-back Liam Scales.

Treatment of Liam Scales at Celtic
Cameron Carter-Vickers is Celtic’s starting centre-back; not many are disputing that. It’s just a case of who sits next to him.
Andy Halliday doesn’t like the ‘rough ride’ Scales gets with the Celtic Park faithful, but Paul Slane harshly claimed where he doesn’t want to see the Republic of Ireland international, as he told Open Goal.
“I am not disagreeing, I know you have said it as well, (Celtic need) a left centre half,” admitted Halliday. “But I do think that Liam Scales gets such a rough ride at Celtic, no?”
Slane responded: “Scales is alright, for me, when playing in the SPFL. But when you go into Europe, you need better than that, for me. It might be a bit harsh. But you need better than that.”
Scales’ stats for Celtic against St Mirren
There is still a long way to go, but it was a bit of a surprise that Scales started Celtic’s win over St Mirren on Flag Day, and the opening game of the new season.
Despite the Hoops looking off colour on many occasions, including going forward, one man remained resolute at the back, and that’s Scales.
That’s why WhoScored were very complimentary towards handing Scales a rating of over 8 for his performance against St Mirren.
