Video: Class footage of new Celtic supporter song for Jota; the lyrics you need to know

Celtic supporters have a new song on the terraces, and it’s a tribute to star winger Jota.

The Hoops faithful have been prolific songwriters this season. At the start of the campaign, we had a new song for Abada, Kyogo and Postecoglou. Then, we got a fantastic North Curve effort to the tune of “Sway”.

Now, it’s Jota’s turn. And although a George Michael song might’ve been tempting, Celtic supporters have taken O-Zone’s Dragostea din Tei, or MC Finchy’s Ozone Bounce, if you prefer.

Celtic have mined both the hardstyle of Scooter and the bolero-mambo of ‘¿Quién será?’ by Luis Demetrio and Pablo Beltrán Ruiz. So, you can’t say there’s not some wild musical divergence happening at Celtic Park this season. But, as ever, the new tunes are making an impact on the terraces.

This one is sure to be a favourite.

Here are the Celtic fans singing it against Hibernian last night:

The lyrics are:

When you score you make the Celtic sing
Jota on the wing, Jota Jota on the wing
Every time you’re on the ball we know
There’s gonna be a goal
our superstar from Portugal

Of course, a more familiar song from the Celtic Park stands rang out when Jota got on the pitch against Hibernian last night. “Celtic, Celtic, sign him up” was the refrain.

New Celtic supporter song certain to bang; Jota deserves it

Whether Jota is into 00s one-hit wonders, or dance reinterpretations, we just don’t know.

What’s clear, though, is the absolute devotion supporters have to Jota, and now he has his own Celtic song. Quite right, too.

In what was already a very spiriting game for supporters to watch, seeing Jota come on for Celtic in the second half was a real boost. This season, he’s scored 8 goals and set up 6 more [Transfermarkt], while his trickery, guile and willingness to take on defenders is fantastic.

Of all the players that deserve their own individual Celtic supporter song, you’d surely put him right up there.

The Hoops supporters are making their intentions clear with this; we want to keep Jota long-term. If there’s even the hint of the possibility of it, it gets the Bhoys fans excited. Jota is so obviously a player with massive potential, but he’s already performing fantastically for Celtic.

It’s frightening to think what he could do with a couple more years at Paradise.

Hopefully, then, this is a song we hear for a long time yet. Kudos to these Celtic supporters ringing out a new tune for their star winger.
