Viljami Sinisalo believes Celtic have just signed a player who was ‘one of the best in the world’ when he was 17

Celtic are still actively in the hunt for new players in the summer transfer window.

With a number of positions still needing strengthened, Brendan Rodgers still has time to add quality to his squad.

So far, Celtic have added the likes of Ross Doohan, Callum Osmand, Kieran Tierney and Hayato Inamura.

But, according to Viljami Sinisalo, Celtic have already signed a player who he believes was world class when he played against him aged just 17.

Benjamin Nygren is Celtic’s ‘low-risk signing’ but was world class at 17

Sinisalo was in and around the Finland youth international squads around the same time that Benjamin Nygren was with Sweden.

And in a private conversation with journalist Michael Gannon, the Celtic goalkeeper believes Nygren was genuinely ‘one of the best in the world’ when the winger was just 17 years old.

Gannon told Hotline Live, “It’s a low-risk signing isn’t it? That kind of money. It’s a it’s a classic kind of Celtic punt, isn’t it?

“He could go on and become a £50 million player in 12 months or he could kind of drift away and end up on loan in Belgium or something like that.

“I think it be more towards the former and given we hear from this kid, he’s got a bit of ability.

“And speaking last week to Viljami Sinisalo, he played against him a lot of times with Sweden, they’re both the same age groups, and he said this guy, at 17, he was one of the best in the world.

“It didn’t quite work out for him over in Belgium but he’s still got that ability and it’s a big move for him but it’s low risk though.”

Celtic winger Benjamin Nygren’s full international career so far

Nygren, at 24, seems to be one of the most talented players coming through to the Swedish international squad.

So far, the Celtic winger has four senior international caps, but Nygren has plenty of experience in the Swedish youth ranks.

If Nygren continues this current trajectory, he will undoubtedly become one of Celtic’s most talented and shrewd buys of recent years.
