It’s amazing what can happen in 12 months in football.

Last December, Kyogo Furuhashi was playing Champions League football for Celtic, under a Brendan Rodgers side that was flying and producing some serious performances.

Fast forward to the present, Rodgers is no longer Celtic’s manager, Martin O’Neill has been through the doors, and new boss Wilfried Nancy has lost his first game against Hearts.

All in the meantime, Kyogo’s decline has been quite incredible, and unfortunately for Celtic’s Treble-winner, it shows no sign of stopping at Birmingham City after his side’s recent outing at Southampton.

You have £20m to spend in the January transfer window. How are you spending it?

Kyogo Furuhashi’s sitter for Birmingham City against Southampton goes viral

Birmingham have made a strong start to their Championship campaign, sitting just outside the play-off places after promotion from League One last term.

Kyogo was one of their big summer captures, but he has struggled to settle in England’s second tier, as he proved during his side’s 3-1 defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Following a cross from the right channel, Kyogo reacted to his teammate’s header, which hit the post, but his rebounded shot flew over the bar, despite an open goal waiting for the ball to hit.

It sums up the Japan star and how he has lost that ruthless instinct in front of goal.

Kyogo’s stats since leaving Celtic

There was a lot of negative noise around Kyogo leaving last January, because Celtic were selling a key player, and he was going midway through the campaign.

But that £10 million Celtic got for Kyogo looks serious business now, because the player who would be a nightmare in Scotland and against Rangers, regularly, can’t buy a goal now.

It proves that the grass isn’t greener on the other side, because this is Kyogo’s record since leaving the champions of Scotland.
