Brendan Rodgers is entering the final year of his contract at Celtic.

The Hoops boss returned to the club in 2023 and vowed to stay at Celtic for three years unless he was ’emptied’ by the Parkhead board.

Winning a double in his first season back at Celtic, Rodgers looks like he could improve on that with a potential treble this season.

And with just over 12 months to go on his current deal, the Celtic manager has hinted that talks to extend his deal could take place over the summer with Hoops chief Dermot Desmond.

Brendan Rodgers plans to ‘catch up’ Dermot Desmond over Celtic contract

Dermot Desmond was instrumental in Rodgers’ Celtic return after the majority shareholder made him his number one target after Ange Postecoglou left for Spurs.

Now two-thirds into his current deal, it appears that talks to extend his current deal could be in the pipeline over the coming weeks.

Rodgers told the Sunday Mail, “Yes. Listen, it’s up to the club. The club might think three years is enough of me and that’s it.

“But, yes, we’ll speak around the team. And obviously, it’s always what is most important for Celtic.

“We’ll catch up over the summer. But the idea was to just make sure.

“I wanted us to focus on this season without distractions, just focus on performance and winning.

“Then, when there’s a bit of spare time at the end of the season, we can chat around that. It’s great for Dermot. I’m so proud for him.

“The belief he’s had in myself to bring me back and the confidence he gives me in that belief allows me to maximise how I do the job.”

Brendan Rodgers must stay at Celtic

Rodgers has proven over the last two seasons that he is the perfect fit for Celtic. The domestic success he has enjoyed has been complemented by the improvements in Europe.

Celtic progressed from the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2013 under Rodgers after wins against the likes of RB Leipzig helped restore the Parkhead club’s reputation amongst Europe’s elite.

With another crack at the Champions League on the horizon and a shift in Celtic’s transfer policy, it’s clear the club are moving forward under the Hoops boss and he should be given the chance to continue the progress beyond next summer.
