The former Rangers man was gutted as Celtic snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat at Dundee.#
Celtic battled back from 3-2 down at Dundee in the dying embers of the game after a blatant handball allowed Arne Engels to equalise and take a point back to Celtic Park.
The handball was so obvious that referee, Don Robertson, immediately pointed to the spot and VAR took mere seconds to verify.
Readers can watch the penalty decision below:
However, it seems that former Rangers man, Ally McCoist has taken umbrage with the penalty decision as he took a sly dig at Celtic’s equaliser after being wound up about the points gap between his old club and Celtic by Alan Brazil.

Ally McCoist’s sly penalty dig as Celtic draw at Dundee
Brazil said on talkSPORT, “Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says his side didn’t do the basics of the game very well. They drew a thriller with Dundee that finished 3-3.
“No need to worry, though, the gap at the top is 16 points. What was that Ally? 16 points, yeah. Are Dundee any good?
McCoist: “In two games at home they got a draw with Celtic and a draw with Rangers you have to say that’s very good. Credit where it’s due.
“I couldn’t believe it. Celtic got a penalty in the 95th minute. That doesn’t happen very often, does it?”
Brazil: “Well, I think that’s what’s called evening it all up.”
McCoist: “Me and the wee man were coming home from Chelsea and he says, ‘How long to go at Dundee?’ and I said, ‘It’s 92 minutes’.
“He said, ‘It will be two minutes to the penalty’ and he got it spot on, to be fair. Spot on.”
All of Celtic’s penalties this season disproves Ally McCoist’s Celtic slant
Celtic have been awarded six penalties so far this season with Arne Engels taking five and Adam Idah hitting the other.
All five were stonewallers but, to prove McCoist’s theory wrong, apart from last night’s spot kick, just two were awarded in the final few minutes of the game.
Arne Engels’ Celtic penalties
- Sep 14, 2024: Celtic 2 v 0 Hearts. Engels tucks away the 52nd-minute penalty.
- Sep 18, 2024: Celtic 5 v 1 Slovan Bratislava. The 56th-minute penalty was expertly tucked away.
- Oct 30, 2024: Celtic 2 v 0 Dundee FC. Engels finishes the 67th-minute spot kick well.
- Dec 26, 2024: Celtic 4 v 0 Motherwell. The 46th-minute penalty gave Celtic a half-time lead.
- Jan 11, 2025: Ross County 1 v 4 Celtic. Engels’ 96th-minute penalty wraps up the three points.
Adam Idah’s Celtic penalty
- Nov 23, 2024: Hearts 1 v 4 Celtic. Idah scored the 96th-minute penalty after all three points were wrapped up.
Every single penalty deserved with no dubiety about the validity of an of the awards, unlike McCoist’s old team’s record.
Let’s not ask him about the record amount of penalties Rangers were awarded last season or the fact the Ibrox club went two full season’s without conceding a spot-kick even when VAR were awarding them against other clubs at the drop of a hat.
