What Dermot Desmond was doing as Celtic flapped in the Europa League vs SC Braga

Whilst the fallout over Celtic’s defeat to SC Braga will continue today, the focus will all be on that disallowed goal, the board and Brendan Rodgers.

Whilst we will get to Brendan Rodgers later, the Celtic board will come under fire once again after the Hoops’ home defeat to Braga in the Europa League.

Whilst everyone will talk about Kelechi Iheanacho’s ‘goal’, this defeat should not take away the spotlight from Dermot Desmond.

Celtic’s largest single shareholder was nowhere to be seen as Hoops fans put their protest against the board to one side after a temporary peace broke out before the visit of Braga.

Well, that peace is on thin ice after Celtic’s tepid Europa League performance and when supporters find out what Desmond was doing instead of being at Parkhead for the big European night.

Dermot Desmond’s golf priority as Celtic lost to SC Braga in the Europa League

Desmond is long referred to as Celtic’s ‘absentee landlord’ due to his long absences from Parkhead even when important games are coming up.

And as Celtic’s defeat to Braga played out, the BBC’s Tom English shared exactly what Desmond was up to.

English said on the BBC, “Cameras panned to the director’s box at Celtic where there’s no sign of Dermot Desmond.

“Playing in the Dunhill Links in Fife this week, of course.”

So Desmond was in Scotland but failed to turn up at Celtic Park for one of the biggest games of the season.

Surprising? No. Typical? Yes.

Celtic’s next fixture in the Europa League is now a must-win

Celtic’s next fixture in the Europa League is against Sturm Graz and now, that turns into a must-win game for Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic manager is now under real pressure in the competition after failing to score at home against an average Portuguese side whose fans wanted their own manager sacked at the weekend.

Make no mistake, if the talks between the Celtic Fans Collective and the board break down on Monday, then there will be even more protests from now until the end of the season.
