What Jeffrey Schlupp told Sky Sports about this summer and next season after Celtic loan ends

There have been a lot of changes at left-back for Celtic in recent times.

The only constant has been Greg Taylor earning the regular minutes, but many players have come and gone, including Jeffrey Schlupp.

The 32-year-old joined Celtic from Crystal Palace during the January transfer window on a six-month loan deal, and it wasn’t too long before he was the main starter for Brendan Rodgers.

But those starts lasted less than two months, before Taylor won his place back towards the end of the campaign, but now he is expected to leave the double-winners when his contract expires at the end of June.

Another player who will also be a free agent in the summer is Schlupp, and nobody is the wiser as to what will happen to the player’s future.

Jeffrey Schlupp talks to Sky Sports about his future

It has been well-documented that Kieran Tierney will return to Celtic next season, but Rodgers still needs another pair of legs at left-back.

As mentioned, it’s highly unlikely Taylor will sign a new deal, so is that other left-back closer to home? And in the form of Schlupp?

The player himself told Sky Sports News (27/05/25 at 1:30 pm) that he is going to ‘relax and recover’ over the summer, including playing some golf, and then ‘we see what happens’.

Reporter asks Schlupp, who is at James Maddison’s Invitational Golf Day in Hertfordshire: “Looking forward to a nice summer off now, maybe a bit more golf?”

Schlupp responded: “Time to rest, relax and recover. A bit of golf, and then we see what happens.”

Schlupp’s stats for Celtic after loan from Crystal Palace

This isn’t the type of deal Celtic usually conclude, especially for an outfield player, as the powers that be usually fish for those young gems.

The difference with those deals is that a lot of money is invested in them, like Celtic’s club-record transfer, Arne Engels.

But Schlupp is on a free, so should the champions of Scotland bring him back? This is how he fared during his time in Glasgow.
