What Mateusz Bogusz thinks about his future after summer links to Celtic

Celtic’s transfer business concluded with the capture of Luke McCowan from Dundee on transfer deadline day.

McCowan’s signature followed Brendan Rodgers’ capture of Arne Engels and Auston Trusty as Celtic strengthened their first team with the quality the Hoops boss has been craving for months.

However, reports suggested that Celtic also had their eye on Polish attacking midfielder, Mateusz Bogusz, this summer but Celtic pulled away from the deal to focus on other transfer priorities.

And now, Bogusz’s dad has spoken out about his son’s future and explained how the move to MLS came about and dropped a hint on when his son expects to return to Europe.

Bogusz ‘hopes’ for Europe return soon

Bogusz made the move from Leeds United to Los Angeles FC back in 2023. After making just one appearance for the English Championship side, loan spells at Logrones and Ibiza in the Spanish second-tier offered some much-needed game time.

But now, Bogusz is on fire in the US with 17 goals and has just made his debut for Poland but his dad, Piotr, has shared how LAFC plan to sell him to a club in Europe soon.

Piotr told Przeglad Sportowy Onet, “When we first heard about the interest from MLS, we didn’t treat it with much enthusiasm.

“We thought that maybe it would be better to wait for other offers. Mateusz wasn’t convinced either. But the Americans didn’t give up, they were determined and that’s probably the main reason why he decided to make this move.

“Coach (Steve) Cherundolo and the club’s director called us and presented us with an idea for Mati.

“They were very specific. They said that they saw goalscoring potential in him and that MLS would be just a stopover for him, because they would sell him to Europe after some time.

“We liked this vision and decided to take a risk. Today we see that risk has paid off, but he hopes sooner rather than later to return to Europe.” as cited by the Daily Record.

Bogusz Celtic opportunity has gone

With Rodgers adding Arne Engels this summer, the opportunity for Bogusz to join Celtic has gone for the time being.

Unless a move can be fashioned in January, it’s difficult to see who the Pole would oust from the Celtic first team unless another player was moved on.

At just 23, Bogusz has a big future ahead of him in the game but will that future involve a spell at Celtic? It’s difficult to say but it is one that definitely worth keeping an eye on in the not too distant future.
