Celtic signed Jeffrey Schlupp on transfer deadline day.
Schlupp joined Brendan Rodgers at Celtic as the club’s second, and last, signing of the January window as the Ghanaian international looks to get more first-team football at Celtic Park.
The Crystal Palace man has struggled for game time this season and with 12 appearances amounting to just 173 minutes of football, Celtic fans may well be wondering what Brendan Rodgers was thinking taking a chance on taking a chance on an unfit 32-year-old.
However, it seems that it’s what people at Leicester City told the Celtic manager about Schlupp that has convinced Rodgers that the utility player can play a part in his title run-in this season.

Leicester City labels Celtic defender Jeffrey Schlupp ‘fantastic’
Rodgers told Celtic TV [17m], “Firstly, his mentality will fit in with the culture here. I’ve never worked with Jeffrey before, but I’ve come across him.
“Obviously, he came through Leicester City, a young player and won the league there and the guys I remember speaking to there at that time who taught him said what a good guy he was and what a fantastic player he was.
“He was multi-functional for them, with incredible pace and power.”
Brendan Rodgers shares why brought Jeffrey Schlupp to Celtic
With Celtic light in the left-back area, Liam Scales was being used as cover for Greg Taylor after Alex Valle left the Bhoys to join Como.
Here Rodgers explains why he didn’t continue using Scales and opted to sign Schlupp temporarily instead.
Rodgers continued, “He moved on to Crystal Palace and you can see when he played there, a lot of the times in my latter stages there at Leicester, he was a central midfield player. Played in there and played very well.
“So I think what he comes in is, he offers a great option for us in a couple of positions. Greg’s been brilliant for us this season like all the other players, we didn’t bring in a left-back to cover him last season, and I went with Scales as cover left-back, but I just felt that I didn’t wait to that risk this January.”
Celtic fans won’t need to wait too long to catch a glimpse of their new Bhoy. Rodgers confirmed at the press conference that Schlupp will play a part at some point in tonight’s game against Dundee.
If he’s half the player Leicester describe him to be then it seems that Rodgers has landed himself some very good cover heading into the latter stages of the season.
