The Celtic and Rangers managerial job is probably one of the most pressurised in world football.

If Rangers decide to hire Danny Rohl to try and end Celtic’s dominance in Scotland, the German will certainly know all about it.

Rohl’s first job as a standalone manager was at Sheffield Wednesday, but lasted just under two seasons before leaving the Championship club by mutual consent.

Now in the frame for the vacant Rangers job, current Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has shared what Rohl has told him about Celtic and Bayern Munich.

Danny Rohl admits Bayern Munich pressure is ‘the same’ as Celtic

Rohl was an assistant manager at Bayern Munich from August 2019 to 2021. In that time he won two league titles, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, a German Cup and a German Super Cup.

And Bannan shares what Rohl told him when he asked him about feeling the pressure from a fanbase that just wants to win.

Bannan told the Daily Record, “So I don’t see the pressure in Glasgow getting to him.

“He’s already been at a massive club in Bayern Munich albeit as a No.2. But Bayern is similar to Celtic and Rangers, where a draw isn’t good enough. So he gets that side of it.

“He’s been in that kind of environment, even though he wasn’t the main man. He’s felt it, and I’ve spoken to him about that.

“He knows Munich is the same as Rangers and Celtic, you have to win every game no matter how well you play.”

Celtic’s record vs Bayern Munich as Rohl misses out on facing the Bhoys

Celtic have faced Bayern Munich six times in the Champions League since 2003.

The Hoops have failed to beat the Bundesliga giants on any of those occasions but have earned a creditable 0-0 draw at Celtic Park under Martin O’Neill and a 1-1 draw in Munich under Rodgers.

Rohl was at Munich in the years that Celtic managed to avoid the German club between 2017 and 2025 but there is a very real chance he could be in the Parkhead dugout for the January Glasgow Derby.

If he is, Rohl’s record at Sheffield Wednesday is nothing that Celtic fans should fear as the Bhoys look forward to defending their title regardless of who is in charge of our rivals this season.
