It’s been quite a week for Celtic, the SFA, VAR and the match officials.
VAR has come under the spotlight this week after the video referee chalked off Daizen Maeda’s Celtic ‘goal’ against Hibs at Easter Road.
As Celtic contacted the SFA over the controversy, another decision that was made in the Celtic Park win over Dundee United has come under the scrutiny of the national association’s KMI Panel that fans might have missed.

What the SFA’s KMI Panel said about Adam Idah’s goal in Celtic’s Dundee United win
Adam Idah scored Celtic’s third goal in a 3-0 rout over Dundee United last week.
But it seems that the Republic of Ireland striker’s goal has come under some scrutiny as the KMI Panel shares whether or not they agree that the strike should have stood.
The panel said:
- Incident / On-field Decision: Goal scored by C9 [Adam Idah] – goal awarded – potential foul in build-up
- On-field decision outcome: Correct
- Votes (Correct v Incorrect): 5 v 0
- VAR overturn: No
- Notes: The on-field decision was unanimously supported.
Two other instances the SFA KMI panel got involved in a Celtic decision
Celtic have been under the eye of the SFA panel on two other occasions this season. In the Hoops’ win over Motherwell, the KMI panel claimed that there was ‘no clear and obvious error’ in the officials’ decision not to award a penalty after Hyunjun Yang was fouled.
In another Celtic penalty call against St Johnstone, Yang was once again involved as the panel agreed that the challenge made on the Hoops winger by Saints’ Andre Raymond was perfectly legal.
Celtic supporters will be looking forward to the panel’s verdict on Daizen Maeda’s ‘goal’ against Hibs when they reconvene to review February’s VAR decisions by the match officials.
