Peter Lawwell’s resignation came as a shock to the vast majority of Celtic supporters.
The timing of Celtic’s announcement must be questioned as Wilfried Nancy looked to prepare his team for the game against Dundee United.
Lawwell’s announcement just two hours before Celtic kicked off their defeat to Dundee United was an unnecessary distraction, as was the fallout preceding it.
How will you remember Peter Lawwell’s time at Celtic?
And instead of speaking about the game first, Nancy had to address Lawwell’s Celtic exit in his pitch-side interview just before he took to the Dundee United dugout.

Wilfried Nancy’s Peter Lawwell sentiment will not be shared by many Celtic fans
Celtic supporters have long seen Peter Lawwell as a divisive figure at the club during his tenure as CEO firstly, and then as chairman.
And when asked his thoughts on the announcement, the Celtic manager said he was sad for the outgoing executive.
Nancy told BBC Radio Scotland, “Sad. Sad that he has resigned, and someone who is in the club for so many years has decided to resign.
“I met him one time, so I cannot talk really about this, but again, sadness that is all.”
Interesting to hear Nancy admit he only met Lawwell once, especially since the Hoops boss has been under pressure over the last few weeks.
Brian Wilson takes over as Celtic search for a new chairman
Brian Wilson takes over as interim chairman as Celtic embark on their search for Peter Lawwell’s heir.
Fans will be hoping that the recruitment of the new executive will result in a forward-thinking person, but judging by how Celtic have done business before, the position may well be filled by someone within the club.
But until then, Celtic supporters will watch and wait to see who gets appointed to help take the club forward because the heat is seriously on.
