Nobody likes the international break because it just stops the excitement and momentum of the domestic and European season.

Even with the troubles for Celtic off the pitch, it’s boring having to watch meaningless friendly matches and World Cup qualifiers.

Many supporters just wait for these games to be over, and probably don’t even tune into them, but Celtic duo Paulo Bernardo and Jota were at Motherwell’s Fir Park to get their own dose of international football.

Over the summer, Paulo Bernardo featured for Portugal U21s at the European Championships, but that journey is now over because he is 23, and it’s time for the new crop to come through.

Nonetheless, pictures emerged of Bernardo, alongside Jota, sitting in the stands at Fir Park watching Portugal U21s taking on Scotland’s U21s on Tuesday evening.

Despite West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes getting sent off after 72 minutes, the away side secured a 2-0 win in their UEFA U21 Championship qualifier.

There were two Celtic players part of the Scotland U21 squad against Portugal U21s, and two others with connections to the famous green and white.

Colby Donovan started at the back and played the entire game, whilst fellow academy product Ben McPherson was an unused substitute.

Mitchel Frame left Celtic for Aberdeen in the summer, and he came on as a substitute, whilst Aidan Borland, who joined Aston Villa in 2024, was another unused sub.
