Wilfried Nancy is widely expected to be named the new Celtic manager in the coming days.

Since Brendan Rodgers made his hasty Celtic exit, the club have been in ongoing talks with Nancy for a number of weeks now.

At one point, doubt was cast on whether Nancy would join Celtic after the Columbus Crew general manager Issa Tall said the Parkhead club had yet to approach them for permission to speak to the Frenchman.

And now that the deal to bring Nancy to Celtic is almost done, it appears that the MLS Cup winning manager made sure that when he eventually made his Columbus exit, he would not harm the club in doing so.

How Wilfried Nancy made sure Celtic move didn’t hurt Columbus Crew

Whenever a manager leaves a club, it is usually followed by a huge upheaval or they catch their former employers on the hop.

Nancy made sure that neither happened as US journalist Tom Bogert shares the agreement the Celtic-bound manager had with Columbus Crew to make any exit as smooth as possible.

Bogert said on X, “As part of Wilfried Nancy’s last contract extension with Columbus Crew, there was an understanding this day may come.

Poll: Do you want Wilfried Nancy to become the new Celtic manager?

“Nancy wanted to go to Europe if/when opportunity was right.

“He also wanted to do so in MLS offseason to make sure Columbus had best chance to replace him.”

Strong-headed Nancy is just what Celtic fans need right now

It appears that Nancy comes with a reputation of being strong-willed, and as he prepares to take over at Celtic, that is just what the Parkhead support need.

Ange Postecoglou never took any nonsense when he was at the club and it looks like Nancy could be of a similar mould.

When Nancy left Montreal, he did so with his head held high and didn’t trash them despite having a falling out with the board.

Nancy also stood up to Montreal owner Joey Saputo after a defeat led the executive to try and gain access to the Canadian team dressing room.

The 48-year-old was having none of it and sent Saputo packing with a flea in his ear.

Whilst many doubt Nancy’s credentials and experience, they simply cannot underestimate his resolve and it sounds like he will never be a Celtic ‘yes man’.
