Celtic have had a successful Champions League campaign.

Whilst fans accept that winning the competition will never happen, Celtic recorded some great results against teams from some of the biggest leagues in Europe.

The Bhoys beat the likes of RB Leipzig, Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava whilst earning very good draws against Atalanta, Club Brugge and Bayern Munich to put Celtic back on the map in Europe.

Reaching the knockout phase of the Champions League was a big achievement for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers as he led the Scottish champions out of the group phase for the first time since 2013.

However, it was Celtic’s draw against Bayern that Robbie Savage tried to downplay as Chris Sutton took the BBC pundit to task over his comments

Chris Sutton rubbishes Robbie Savage’s verdict on Celtic’s Bayern Munich draw

Savage tried to have a go at Sutton for celebrating Celtic’s draw in Munich when the Hoops hero challenged his co-host to try and put Rodgers’ results in the Champions League into context.

Savage said on BBC 606 [1h 11m], “And Chris Celtic. Oh, I didn’t know you celebrated losing. They lost. They went out.

Sutton: “I don’t know if you followed the game.”

Savage: “They drew, but they went out on aggregate. They drew.”

Sutton: “Yeah.”

Savage: “So they went out. You’re celebrating. You’re celebrating it. It’s a great performance. They went out. They lost.

Sutton: “Did you watch the game?”

Savage: “They lost, yeah. I’ve seen the chances.”

Sutton: “No, did you watch the game? Give us a little bit of context to Celtic in recent seasons in Europe. Shall we just move on because you can’t?”

Savage: “No, but they’ve gone out. You hammer teams, so if they win celebrating, Celtic went out and you’re saying it was brilliant, great.”

Sutton: “Seriously, you’re better than that. Most of the time, I think you haven’t got a clue and you’re just confirming that.”

Celtic best three results in this season’s Champions League

Here 67 Hail Hail looks at Celtic’s Champions League campaign and picks out the Hoops’ best three results taking into consideration the opponent, the context of the result and the performance of the team.

3. Atalanta 0 v 0 Celtic

After Celtic lost heavily in Dortmund, there were fears that a result of the same magnitude could happen against the current Europa League holders.

However, Rodgers’ side pulled off a defensive masterclass to earn Celtic a draw in Atalanta to instil belief in the team that they can compete with the elite clubs in Europe.

2. Celtic 3 v 1 RB Leipzig

Right off the back of the draw in Atalanta, Celtic faced one of the Bundesliga giants and played them off the park.

After a first-half scare and going behind 1-0, Celtic taught Leipzig a lesson in pressing football as Nicolas Kuhn ran riot to record a famous 3-1 win at Celtic Park.

1. Bayern Munich 1 v 1 Celtic

No one gave Celtic a chance in Munich after the Parkhead club suffered a 2-1 home defeat in the first leg of the knockout phase.

Nicolas Kuhn put his old club to the sword as he put Celtic 1-0 up midway through the second half and with just 15 seconds left to play, Alphonso Davies rescued Bayern as he slotted home from two yards to deny the Hoops a historic win in Germany.
