Celtic got back into the swing of things with their 4-2 win over Ross County at Celtic Park on Flag Day to get the defence of the title off to a winning start.
And whilst the headlines all surround the first team, it is easy to forget that there are other Celtic players out on loan who are doing the business for other clubs.
Take Josh Clarke, for example. The young Celtic goalkeeper was plucked from the B team this week and thrown into first-team action for Scottish Championship side Airdrie at the weekend.
An emergency loan had to be called by Airdrie due to a injury and suspensions and despite going down 2-1 to newly promoted Dunfermline Athletic, Airdrie player/manager, Rhys McCabe was grateful to the 19-year-old stepping in at the weekend.
McCabe said [Daily Record page The Monday winner pullout page 13], “Josh did us a huge favour so I’m grateful he came in. I’ve asked him to play the way I want to play and, yes, there will be bumps along the road but he did well.”
Clarke signed for Celtic in August 2022 from Glenavon on a two-year deal after short spells at Chelsea and Bournemouth. He has been capped ten times at u19 level and has been called up to the senior Nothern Ireland squad. He is yet to make his full senior debut. [Celtic FC]
The young stopper has also represented England, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland at youth level.
He made 23 appearances for the Celtic B side last season and kept eight clean sheets. Clarke is very highly rated at Celtic and looking at how he has been involved around the international set-up at such a young age, he appears to have a big future in the game.
