It’s not very often Bayern Munich do transfer business with Celtic.
The last time Celtic signed a player from the Bundesliga giants, Edson Braafheid donned the Hoops back in 2010.
But as far as selling players to Bayern Munich, Celtic had never done it. Now before anyone says Alan McInally, he left Parkhead for Aston Villa and then moved onto the German giants.
However, there was a move in 2020 that Bayern Munich were ‘delighted’ to complete after a highly-rated Celtic Academy prospect left Parkhead for the Allianz Arena.
But it appears now that that big move never worked out how the young winger had hoped.

Ex-Celtic Academy talent Barry Hepburn is still a free agent after 2024 Bayern Munich release
First off, no one can deny that the lure of Bayern Munich would tempt pretty much any player in world football.
Barry Hepburn was chased by the German giants when he was just 16 years old. And when Bayern signed the young winger in 2020 the Bundesliga club were buzzing.
On Bayern’s official website, Campus Director Jochen Sauer said at the time, “We’re delighted that Barry’s transfer has worked out. He’s an attacking player with a lot of potential, and we want to help him develop further.”
Hepburn extended his contract at Bayern in 2023 and despite being on a deal until 2025, the former Celtic youngster was released last summer and he’s still looking for a club.
What happened to Barry Hepburn when he left Celtic for Bayern Munich
Hepburn didn’t make a single first-team appearance for Celtic before leaving for Munich.
At Bayern, the story remained the same but at 16, it was unlikely the youngster was going to break into the Bundesliga side’s first team.
However, immediately thrust into the Bayern II team, Hepburn made 24 appearances for the U18s which included six in the UEFA Youth League where he scored one goal and created two.
Loan spells at DSV Leoben and Queen’s Park proved fruitless and now a free agent and at just 21, surely a young winger with 11 caps at Scotland youth level can find a new club? 67 Hail Hail will keep our fingers crossed.
