‘You’re going to be surprised’… Peter Grant picks his shock front-three that Celtic should be using

Celtic’s struggles domestically have been well highlighted on this site and in the press recently.

With the team finding it difficult to penetrate dogged defences, Brendan Rodgers needs to come up with some sort of master plan that will help his team kill off teams early.

On far too many occasions this season have we seen Celtic take the lead and fail to put them to the sword and on many other occasions we have watched them fail to score at all.

So what is the remedy to this unusual problem? Peter Grant reckons he knows the answer and it might leave you feeling shocked.

Adam Idah’s new position at Celtic

The former Celtic hero wants Kyogo Furuhashi played in his preferred role through the middle but it’s where Grant wants Rodgers to play Adam Idah that left me with raised eyebrows.

Grant said [The Go Radio Football Show], “You’re going to be surprised with my team.

“I would go with O’Riley, Iwata and McGregor. The front three is going to be interesting.

“I’d play it as a front three. I’d go Maeda down the right. Go Idah on the left but in as a second striker and Kyogo through the middle.

“I’d like to see Idah there as he’s played off the left-hand side for Norwich. Not outside-left or playing on the touchline but playing inside the fullback and running inside and being a second striker.

“Because I don’t think, with the wide players we have they’ve not shown enough quality and I think you’ve got to look at something different.”

Idah is versatile and can play that role but the problem is, out of his 172 career appearances he has played on the left wing ten times and as a second striker twice. [Transfermarkt]

Now is not the time to be pulling out these untried and untested measures. The business end of the season requires Rodgers to play his strongest team at all times and whilst we are not firing on all cylinders yet, trialling a new position for a young player at such a critical stage of the season could be a huge mistake.
