The overnight links to Ange Postecoglou haven’t exactly been met with warm approval from online Celtic supporters.
You can perfectly understand that.
After a high-profile chase for a calibre of manager such as Eddie Howe, who many fans had talked themselves into believing in, we’re apparently now pursuing a left-field choice that the majority of supporters know little about.
Even putting the most positive spin on the appointment, you have to acknowledge it’s a massive risk on the club’s part if he does end up in the dugout.
A manager who has never taken charge of a game in European football arriving in Scotland at a time of intense pressure has the hallmarks of disaster.
Yet, Celtic supporters don’t really have a viable alternative to finding a bit of belief and hope in a man unknown to them.
Celtic fans have little power and will have to back Ange Postecoglou
It’s clear that the club are walking their own path and barely listen to the feedback of supporters.
For months we’ve been debating the virtues and pitfalls of organisations such as The Celtic Trust and Celtic Shared across our various platforms and, for whatever reason, neither campaign has struck a chord with the wider support nor forced the club to change strategy.
The only clear, direct route to make an impact on the club is withholding season ticket money, but even that would greatly harm the team on the pitch and it’s no-one’s place to tell others how to spend their money.
Regardless of what you think of Postecoglou, if he does end up with the job there’s really no choice but to back him while simultaneously being upset with his appointment in the first place.

It’s a very odd situation and would undoubtedly put pressure on him and the need for results immediately.
The Celtic board have had months to sell the vision of next season to supporters. We’ve had months to appoint a director of football who could build trust with the support.
They’ve done neither. While it’s Postecoglou receiving the brunt of the criticism right now, really he could well end up the most popular man inside Celtic Park.
In other news, Celtic said to have missed out on Jose Bordalas and Enzo Maresca while waiting on Howe.
