Bitter Ally McCoist’s ‘Marty Feldman’ VAR swipe backfires as Celtic move ahead of Rangers

Ally McCoist couldn’t hide his disappointment after Celtic beat Aberdeen to climb ahead of Rangers and close the gap to Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The Bhoys’ Pittodrie win was hard-fought, but well-deserved as Martin O’Neill watched his team take all three points back to Glasgow.

However, VAR took centre-stage as the video referee said Benjamin Nygren’s winner was onside to allow Celtic to leapfrog Rangers into second-place in the Scottish Premiership table, and it was enough to annoy McCoist.

Ally McCoist is fuming at Celtic VAR call vs Aberdeen

The former Rangers striker has a serious bee in his bonnet about VAR, especially after Celtic’s draw at Rangers.

And after the Pittodrie win, McCoist raged on talkSPORT, “Has anything changed after Celtic‘s half yard offside goal winner?“You need to get a look at it, was Marty Feldman on VAR?

“Here’s one for the younger ones, look up Marty Feldman. Whoever was on VAR needs to get their eyeballs checked.”

However, as McCoist tried to be funny, the joke is actually on the former Rangers striker as VAR lines proved that Nygren was played onside by an Aberdeen defender.

Celtic fans would have hoped that McCoist would have done a bit of easy fact-checking before embarrassing himself on national radio.

But as Rangers move into third, McCoist’s pain will be enjoyed by Celtic fans for the rest of this week.
