Brendan Rodgers must be bold and drop Celtic forward for Dundee United clash

A point is all Celtic need to secure the Scottish Premiership title.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have been the runaway leaders for the majority of the season and can wrap up the league with four games to spare against Dundee United.

There’s frustration from Rodgers that his Celtic side haven’t done it sooner, but he will still be glad to get over the line.

It’s been 10 years since the Bhoys were beaten at Tannadice and with Jim Goodwin’s men chasing a European spot, it won’t be an easy clash.

The Celtic manager has named an unchanged XI in the last two games, but now it is time to make a huge call and drop one of his attacking players.

Adam Idah should be dropped for Dundee United game

Adam Idah has had an up-and-down start to life as a permanent player at Celtic Park.

This time last year, the Republic of Ireland international was banging in the goals – most notably his last-minute winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

It’s not to say he’s been a flop – he just hasn’t matched those levels of last season in his all-round game, despite scoring 15 goals this term.

Idah scored but still could’ve done more in the St Johnstone win last week, struggling to get into the game.

Instead, Rodgers should look to move Daizen Maeda into the middle as the central attacker, a decision that proved to be popular after the January transfer window closed.

That will allow Jota to come into the XI, starting on the left-hand side, keeping James Forrest on the right.

Adam Idah must prove himself before he has new competition

It’s inevitable that Rodgers will try and sign a striker this summer.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure meant that Idah has had a clean run at nailing down the number nine spot.

He can’t do it on his own and several names have been linked, including Brondby forward Mathias Kvistgaarden.

Kvistgaarden could’ve joined Celtic in January but nothing materialised whilst David Strelec of Slovan Bratislava could also be an option.

It’s a crunch point in the season for Idah and the 24-year-old has six games to show why he should be the main man in the 25/26 campaign.
