Cagliari want Kieron Bowie but Celtic still have one major advantage

The clearest signal over Kieron Bowie’s Hellas Verona future has come from Italy as Celtic links continue to follow the young striker.

Bowie left Hibs for the Serie A amid speculation that Celtic were interested in signing the Scotland international.

But now, as Bowie’s future is being discussed after Verona’s relegation from the Serie A, it appears that Cagliari have made contact for the former Hibs man, but that should not worry Celtic.

‘Cagliari is very interested’ in Bowie as Celtic watch on

Celtic were named as being interested in Bowie earlier this month but according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Cagliari have already made their move.

Pedulla wrote, “Cagliari isn’t interested in (former Chelsea striker Armando) Broja, as explained in recent days.

“However, they’re very interested in Kieron Bowie, born in 2002, a surprise signing last January when Verona set up and quickly closed a deal with Scottish club Hibernian for around €6 million.

“Cagliari is pressing, and they’re very keen on the striker, who has already shown his qualities in his first experience in Serie A.

“Verona is trying to resist, wanting to invest in Bowie in Serie B as well, but Cagliari has already made its first steps.”

While Cagliari push hard for a move, it appears that Verona are not willing to sell. But there is another reason why Celtic should not be scared of the approach from the Serie A club.

Celtic can still attract Kieron Bowie despite Cagliari move

Despite playing in the Serie A, Cagliari’s wage structure can easily be matched by Celtic.

According to Capology, the Italian side’s top earner is Andrea Belotti who earns just over £43,000 per week.

Only two other players earn over £40,000 per week with the majority of players earning under £30,000.

Kieron Bowie currently earns under £10,000 per week including bonuses so Celtic could match, if not outmuscle, Cagliari in financial terms.

The only thing going in the Italian’s favour is the calibre of opposition Bowie could face. However, Celtic can offer the chance of winning silverware and Champions League football and that is as attractive as it gets for a young player making his way in the game.
