Kjetil Knutsen’s acknowledgement of the Bodo/Glimt fans after their Champions League defeat is something that the Celtic board can learn from.

Bodo’s incredible Champions League run came to an end after they were beaten 5-0 by Sporting CP, despite taking a 3-0 lead into the second leg.

Knutsen has previously been linked with Celtic following his excellent work with the Norwegian minnows and his post-match comments are something the hierarchy at Parkhead should listen to, and apply to their own supporters.

Kjetil Knutsen praises Bodo/Glimt supporters despite defeat

After several high-profile results, including wins against Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan, Bodo’s European run ended in the last 16 stage against Sporting.

The 57-year-old may have been gutted to have seen his side let such a comfortable lead slip, but he was still grateful for all of the fans who travelled to Lisbon to support the side.

“We have had enormous support throughout this entire tournament and for years now, whether it’s in Norway or in Europe. And they stay behind,” Knutsen said.

“It hurts to see… it hurts that so many people support us, yet they show such greatness by supporting the team even when things go poorly. I think that’s something many people could learn from.

“And I think that is one of the reasons why Glimt as a club has reached the level it has; I appreciate that immensely. It’s the least one can do to give them that feedback and thank them. And then, my heart bleeds when you have to do it with—how shall we say—with that backdrop and the performance we put in.”

Take note, Celtic board

While Knutsen has acknowledged the Bodo fans for their help and support, the Celtic board are still at loggerheads with their supporters.

We are still waiting for the Green Brigade to be allowed back into Celtic Park and numerous statements this season have seemingly pointed the finger at fans.

How do Celtic fans get the board to listen to their concerns?

When everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet, great things can be achieved. You only have to look at how Bodo have gone to levels they never imagined as they are all in unison.

Division achieves nothing and Knutsen’s comments should sit with the likes of Dermot Desmond, Brian Wilson, Michael Nicholson and others to try and bring some unity to the club.
