Marcelo Saracchi’s future has become a lot simpler for Celtic after Boca Juniors finally named their price.
The Parkhead club now know exactly what it will cost to bring the Uruguayan back to Glasgow and there can be no excuses if Martin O’Neill wants him.
Saracchi was a popular figure amongst the Celtic fans last season as he shone in the title run in and it was initially reported that it would take just £1.5m to land the full-back.
However, a report from Argentina has revealed how much Boca actually want and it gives Celtic nowhere to hide if Martin O’Neill wants to add Saracchi to the squad.
Name your figure to bring Saracchi to Celtic…
Boca Juniors have called Celtic’s bluff over Marcelo Saracchi
El Intransigente have told how Boca’s sporting director Juan Román Riquelme has set the price the Argentine club really want for Saracchi.
An offer of $3m (£2.2m) is enough to prise Saracchi away from Boca and, by Celtic’s standards, it is a fee they can comfortably afford.
The report says that if any club offers that fee, Saracchi is theirs as he continues to train away from the first-team squad.
Celtic could face fresh competition for Saracchi
Saracchi is not short of admirers as Independiente and other clubs from Argentina show interest in the former Celtic loanee.
Interest from Turkey has also been reported as newly promoted Superliga side Çorum FK cast admiring glances toward Saracchi.
The message is clear for Celtic now. They now know Boca want £2.2m for Saracchi. There is no dubiety or secrecy about it.
If Martin O’Neill wants Saracchi, Celtic should stop looking for cheaper alternatives. Boca have named their price. Pay it and get the deal done.
