Tomas Cvancara has struggled for form since joining Celtic and going for someone like Tobias Lauritsen could prove to be a better option than triggering his £7m option to buy.
Cvancara’s first touch and lack of impact in the six-yard box has affected his start to life at the Hoops, where he has one goal from nine appearances and is on a six-game goalless streak.
The forward has contributed in other areas but in comparison to Lauritsen, it is no contest.
Has Tomas Cvancara done enough to convince you that he deserves a permanent contract?
Tell me why…
Why Tobias Lauritsen would be a better option than Tomas Cvancara
Lauritsen has been prolific in the Eredivisie for Sparta Rotterdam ever since making the move to the Netherlands.
He has hit double figures in each of the last three seasons while Cvancara has failed to reach that mark. In fact, the 28-year-old has scored the same amount of goals (12) as all of Celtic’s current strikers have combined.

Compared to the Hoops’ current forward, he is more consistent too, playing 30-plus games a season. year after year and even helps provide assists for his teammates, albeit a modest amount of three.
Crucially, he would also be cheaper. Lauritsen’s contract expires this summer and could be signed on a free. Cvancara, on the other hand, has an option to buy for £7m in his contract, but hasn’t done enough to warrant that being activated.
The difference in Tobias Lauritsen and Tomas Cvancara’s playing style
Standing at 6′ 5″, Lauritsen is taller than Cvancara and dominates in the air. This season, the 28-year-old has won 60.5 per cent of his aerial duels whereas the Bhoys’ leading striker has won 39.4 per cent of duels.
Despite his frame, Cvancara also prefers playing with his back to goal, laying the ball off for the onrushing midfielders.
The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝
Tell us why you picked that position
Yes, Lauritsen does the same but he acts as more of a focal point in his side. Cvancara is seen as more of a tool to help the likes of Benjamin Nygren to continue to be amongst the goals.
With Lauritsen up top, it would be him who would be expected to score the goals.
