Celtic are on the hunt for a permanent manager after Brendan Rodgers resigned from his position.

Rodgers’ resignation was confirmed on Monday night, with Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney in charge until a long-term successor is found.

67 Hail Hail understands that O’Neill and Maloney could stay until the end of the season, unless someone is found.

There is one standout candidate that would be the perfect replacement, but the Hoops will have to wait a little longer to appoint him.

Celtic should appoint Kjetil Knutsen as their new manager

The story of Bodo/Glimt over the past five years has been special, and that is largely down to the work of Kjetil Knutsen.

Under his watch, Knutsen has helped to transform the side on the edge of the Arctic Circle into Norway’s footballing powerhouse and a competitive force in Europe.

In the inaugral season of the Conference League, Bodo/Glimt made it to the quarter-finals of the competition before reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League in the 2024/25 campaign, and are competing in the league phase of the Champions League for the first time ever.

Knutsen’s style is an attractive brand of attacking football and one that would certainly get the Celtic Park crowd roaring.

Why do Celtic need to wait until December to appoint Knutsen?

Celtic’s only stumbling block is that they will have to wait until December to appoint the 57-year-old.

Knutsen has always stated he would never leave his beloved club mid-season, and with a Champions League campaign still underway, he is unlikely to go against his word.

However, his contract does expire at the end of the calendar year, which would make him a free agent and available to speak to other clubs.

If Celtic can hold their nerve and wait until then, they may be able to land one of Europe’s most in-demand coaches.
