Celtic have announced the re-opening of the Number 7 restaurant at Celtic Park and the timing of it has not gone down well with supporters.

On any other day, this would have been welcomed by Celtic supporters, but right now as anger boils about the lack of transfer activity, the message this sends does not sit well with many.

The replies to the tweet sum up the mood of many Celtic fans as they not only pointing to the lack of transfer business, but also highlighting the fact that the corporate areas of the stadium are being refurbished while the facilities regular supporters have to suffer remain neglected.

Celtic fans quickly point the finger at the board

Now, let’s not even mention that the laughable AI pictures Celtic used inadvertently added an extra tier to the stand, the reaction from fans online summed up this announcement perfectly.

Many supporters urged the club to address the issues of the stadium looking tired and run down while the board look after the corporate seats.

Others vented their frustrations about the Celtic first-team squad needing upgraded and not the hospitality suites.

Whether fans were talking about transfers, stadium maintenance or the club’s commercial strategy, the reaction to the post was remarkably consistent.

Celtic need to read the room

No one is arguing against upgrading the facilities to the Number 7 restaurant or looking after the events that need organised to bring in revenue.

It’s the timing and the optics surrounding the announcement that look terrible. Celtic have seven money-making events organised from now until the end of August.

The club have already released two new Adidas merchandise campaigns. And all this has been done while fans watch the first team squad reduce in size and not a single transfer has been completed.

The refurbished Number 7 Restaurant may prove to be an excellent addition to Celtic Park. That isn’t really the point.

The reaction to the announcement showed just how disconnected the club is to a significant section of its support. It was an entirely avoidable own goal.
