It has been an inconsistent season for Celtic, with issues on and off the pitch.
Forget about the outside noise, and the problems with the Celtic fans and the board, the players on the pitch haven’t covered themselves in glory either.
Several of them have been proven players, and they have been lucky to keep their place in Celtic’s XI, but one man who can’t be put in that boat is Liam Scales.
Over the weekend, Celtic left it late to beat St Mirren, thanks to a stunning goal from Callum McGregor, as the Hoops kept another clean sheet, and Scales played his part again.

Liam Scales is given his flowers for Celtic performances
Let’s be honest, Scales had divided opinion with some of the fanbase, as some feel that he isn’t good enough to regularly start for the champions of Scotland.
But as Chris Sutton rightfully pointed out, the Republic of Ireland international is ‘so important’ to the team’s cause, as he told Sky Sports Football (22/11/25).
Kris Boyd: “Is he (Scales) your Player of the Season, still?”
Sutton: “Well, he is. I talk about Callum McGregor. Liam Scales is so important to Celtic.
“His physicality. His ability to head a ball. A big thing about set plays this season. Long throws. Imagine Celtic without Liam Scales?
“He has the ability to go and head a ball. He had one dodgy game against Dundee; he (Boyd) has held that against me.”

Scales deserves more respect
A player who puts his body on the line and has improved immensely since making his breakthrough under Brendan Rodgers in 2023.
Remember, Scales was out on loan at Aberdeen. His career at Parkhead looked bleak, and nobody expected him to even become a bench player.
But it’s all about taking your chance. The 27-year-old did just that after injuries during that period, and now he is one of the first names on the teamsheet.
- Games: 21
- Goals conceded: 17
- Clean Sheets: 11
