I saw Celtic star from the Holte End prove doubters wrong and shine against Aston Villa

Celtic’s first-ever showdown with Aston Villa was eventful, to say the least.

You are hoping it all happens again, sometime soon, because that was entertaining, and most importantly, a highly competitive Champions League clash, as Villa secured a top-eight finish and the Bhoys head to the play-offs.

Yes, Celtic suffered a 4-2 defeat to Villa, but not many teams are able to challenge and take them on in their backyard, especially when you are 2-0 down before you can blink.

Morgan Rogers provided Unai Emery’s side with a blistering start after five minutes by scoring a brace and Celtic fans would have had Borussia Dortmund flashbacks, at that point.

Let’s be honest, you wouldn’t have blamed them because it was feeling like it was going to be a long night for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

But, just like Celtic’s win over RB Leipzig earlier on in the competition, they kept their composure, got on the ball and tried to control the game in a heated environment.

That led to Adam Idah’s stunning brace, and throughout that time, as well as in the second half when the game slipped away from the Bhoys as the academy players were introduced, one man proving his worth for the champions of Scotland.

Greg Taylor proves doubters wrong as Celtic suffer 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa

I am a season-ticket holder at Aston Villa and got to see the action from the Holte End, and one thing is for sure, Celtic should hold their head high.

Rodgers wants improvement and progress in the Champions League, look at the whole picture and it’s happening this season, with Greg Taylor at the heart of it because he had many great moments at Villa Park.

Yes, Celtic lost their way in the second half, but that was down to a lack of bench strength, because of injuries, suspensions and players leaving, and it would have been different if more senior players were available.

Taylor’s battle with Leon Bailey out wide was highly competitive and his ability to get on the ball, remain composed and do the simple things right stood out.

It was Taylor’s ball that led to Celtic’s first-half comeback – aided by a helping hand from none other than John McGinn – in a game you are hoping fans can see plenty more times again in the coming years.

Taylor needs to sign Celtic contract ahead of Kieran Tierney’s return

Rodgers has confirmed that Tierney is coming back to Celtic, it’s just a case of when, can they get a deal done this month? Or will fans have to wait until the summer?

Either way, Tierney will be donning his boyhood colours again, but he has an established left-back ahead of him and someone who Rodgers highly admires.

This should be seen as a huge positive and how the depth in quality will go to the next level, but Taylor needs to sign that new Celtic deal for that to happen!
