Julian Araujo has been a revelation for Celtic since signing on loan, but could Celtic utilise him as a winger against Aberdeen?
Araujo has made the right-back position his own and put in another solid performance against Rangers last weekend.
However, with lots to offer in the attacking department, Martin O’Neill should look at trying something different with the Mexican.

Who would you start on the right wing against Aberdeen?

Julian Araujo’s attacking stats are better than Hyunjun Yang’s
Moving up the pitch in a more advanced role should be no problem in theory for the 24-year-old.
He would replace Hyunjun Yang if so, and would be more than capable of rising to the challenge.
Araujo outperforms Yang in pretty much every department. He averages a higher percentage when it comes to accurate crosses, registering a total of 19 per cent in comparison to Yang’s 14.3 per cent.
| Stats | Julian Araujo | Hyunjun Yang |
|---|---|---|
| Passing accuracy | 88.8% | 79.4% |
| Successful dribbles | 60% | 40.5% |
| Interceptions | 6 | 0 |
| Tackles per 90 | 1.47 | 0.6 |
| Crossing accuracy | 19% | 14% |
| Average rating | 7.21 | 7.06 |
Aside from shots on goal and xA’s, the natural winger is second best in pretty much every department, whereas Araujo isn’t just more of a threat, he is the better option, full stop.
Who replaces Julian Araujo at right-back?
Alistair Johnston is still recovering from injury and will therefore be out of contention for a while, which leaves Colby Donovan and Anthony Ralston as the two backups.
Donovan has been preferred ahead of Ralston and would be expected to get the nod given his breakthrough into the side.
Many believe that the 19-year-old is the long-term future of the Hoops and giving him more gametime in high-pressure scenarios is what he needs.
