Michel-Ange Balikwisha’s newly-discovered position makes him even more of a perfect fit for Celtic

There isn’t a name that has done the rounds as long as Michel-Ange Balikwisha has.

Balikwisha has been linked with Celtic for well over a year but the transfer has never materialised.

Royal Antwerp have said Balikwisha could leave for £4-£5m as he is in the last year of his contract.

Many Celtic fans believe he would be the perfect solution to help combat the lack of depth in the wide position.

However, the 24-year-old has also been learning a brand new role that is only going to appeal to Brendan Rodgers even more.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha learning new position at Royal Antwerp

Last season saw Balikwisha sidelined for the majority of the season with injuries, but this year is a fresh start.

Over the course of the three games played this season, the 24-year-old has been deployed as an attacking midfielder or in an even deeper role as a holding midfielder.

His strongest position is still out wide but having that extra versatility will be welcome across a gruelling season.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha could be a late Celtic arrival

We’ve become familiar with Celtic doing business late on in the transfer window.

The August 2024 transfer window saw Luke McCowan and Arne Engels signed on deadline day and all the signs point towards a similar situation this summer.

With the deadline on 1 September, Celtic will know by that point if they are in the Champions League main phase, which could determine what market they are venturing into.

Jakob Breum and Balikwisha are the two prime candidates for this and it would be no surprise to see the latter in green and white come September.
