Ranking the three best Celtic strikes so far this season amid goalscoring splurge

Celtic have been sharp at both ends of the pitch this term as Brendan Rodgers lays the law down in his second season back at the club.

The Bhoys have scored 14 times in their opening Scottish Premiership fixtures. Meanwhile, five consecutive league clean sheets equals a record held for 118 years by the club.

Truthfully, there isn’t too much for Celtic supporters to worry about right now. With the Champions League opener and a chance to reach Hampden lying in wait this week, there is a lot of excitement over what Rodgers’ men could achieve this season.

This term, there has been a wider acknowledgement that the general level of performance is night and day compared to last campaign.

Flying out of the blocks, Celtic have played with a style and purpose synonymous with Rodgers’ teams of the past, giving fans their money’s worth even at an early stage. In light of this, 67 Hail Hail have a go at ranking the top three league goals of the season so far.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s strike against Rangers in at number three

Running from three to one, it is only fair to start with Kyogo Furuhashi’s brilliant strike against Rangers in the Bhoys’ dominant Glasgow Derby victory earlier this month.

Taking in Greg Taylor’s pass following some brilliant interception work, the Japan international turned, steadied himself and caressed the ball low and to the left of Jack Butland from around 25 yards.

Doubling the Bhoys’ advantage on the day, Celtic ran out comfortable winners against their rivals to send out an early marker to anyone brave enough to try and take their title.

Showing his striking instinct, Furuhashi took his chance early, while others would’ve looked to advance through the thirds before finding a pass. That is why he remains the Bhoys’ talisman in attack.

Callum McGregor’s solo Glasgow Derby effort narrowly pipped

There was an argument for this being the winning selection, but Callum McGregor’s driving run and piledriver in the same game comes in at second due to a deflection.

Dropping his shoulder on Dujon Sterling before hitting a powerful strike from range that deflected off the Rangers man, the club captain soon found himself wheeling away to rejoice with jubilant Celtic fans after putting the seal on a fantastic Glasgow Derby victory.

Setting the standard as always, McGregor’s stunning goal will live long in the memory of supporters, but it narrowly misses out on top spot.

Nevertheless, that takes nothing away from the midfielder, who was outstanding in the engine room as the Bhoys sailed towards three points.

Callum McGregor’s stunning Hibernian strike tops the lot

Despite the derby goals mentioned, McGregor’s long-range effort against Hibernian at Easter Road in August is the clear winner.

Making an angle, the Lennoxtown graduate took one touch after receiving from Nicolas Kuhn before unleashing what can only be described as an unstoppable effort past Josef Bursik.

Very few goalkeepers, regardless of pedigree, would’ve been able to prevent his strike from nestling in the top corner as the captain continues to fill the creative void left by Matt O’Riley.

Winning the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award for August, you get the impression McGregor will rack up a few more goals this season if Rodgers gives him the freedom to take on more attacking responsibility.
