The Celtic player Brendan Rodgers will be relieved to see staying put over the international break

Celtic players will soon jet off to all corners of the globe as they prepare for involvement with their respective nations on international duty.

Following the Bhoys’ Scottish Premiership clash against Ross County on Sunday, club football will take a seat on the backburner while the next break ensues.

Greg Taylor, James Forrest and Anthony Ralston will be available for Scotland selection. Meanwhile, Celtic’s Alistair Johnston is out of the Canada squad as he continues to nurse a back problem.

The United States national team will also carry a Hoops contingent for their Nations League matches against Panama and Mexico after Auston Trusty won a call-up from Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite Celtic’s £6 million summer signing Trusty entering their fold, Cameron Carter-Vickers is a notable absentee in the Stars and Stripes’ backline.

However, there is reason to detect that Brendan Rodgers will be happy with that being the case from his own perspective.

Cameron Carter-Vickers’ Celtic injury concerns

After Carter-Vickers missed Celtic’s St Johnstone and Borussia Dortmund matches due to injury, the United States international has some valuable time to rest up ahead of the Bhoys’ endeavours after the break, something Rodgers will be relieved to hear after addressing his situation in midweek.

Commenting on the issue before the Champions League defeat in Germany, the Irishman said in his pre-match press conference: “Cam is not available. We’ll see what he’s like going into next weekend, but he’s not here for this one.

“Clearly, he’s a top-class player for us, and he’s missed a little bit of Champions League football, I think, in his time. Five of the 12 games the club has played he has unfortunately not been able to play in.

“But we have other players. It’s always an opportunity for somebody else to come in, and hopefully, we can get Cam back sooner rather than later.”

Recurring injury problems have been an issue for Carter-Vickers at Celtic. The fact he has missed nearly half of his side’s Champions League matches is telling, and his element of control was sorely missed as the Bhoys went down 7-1 to Dortmund in the Champions League.

Celtic will want Cameron Carter-Vickers at full sharpness

Jetting halfway across the world to feature for the United States wouldn’t be the best idea for Carter-Vickers, even if there was a slight chance he would be able to play a part under Pochettino.

However, sense from all parties seems to have prevailed. Playing in seven out of Celtic’s nine-match domestic winning run, he has contributed to five clean sheets, with the games below showing the quintuple of opponents the Southend-born man has helped keep at bay.

Hopefully, the 26-year-old can enjoy a well-deserved rest after a busy run of games alongside Alistair Johnston, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor in the Celtic backline.

Important domestic and European matches are around the corner, so you need to take your breaks when you can get them.
