Celtic are going to be without Cameron Carter-Vickers for some time after Martin O’Neill’s latest injury update.
O’Neill confirmed that Carter-Vickers will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the Europa League win against Sturm Graz.
As the rock at the back, losing the USMNT star is a huge blow – despite the form of Auston Trusty and Liam Scales.
Dane Murray and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey are waiting in the wings, but neither have set the world alight when they have played this season.
This could force the Hoops to dip into the market to find a replacement, and 67 Hail Hail has found three candidates that may be suitable to this role.
Poll: Which position do Celtic need to strengthen in the 2026 January transfer window?
Adam Webster – Brighton & Hove Albion
First up on the list, we have experienced defender Adam Webster.
The centre-back has been plying his trade in the Premier League for some time now, but has found his game time harder to come by over the last year or so.
Out of contract in 2026, the 30-year-old could be approached to discuss a pre-contract, or even be signed on the cheap in January.
One stumbling block, however, may prove to be Tony Bloom. Due to his interests in Hearts, he may feel reluctant about selling an asset from one club to a title rival of another.
Yevgen Cheberko – Columbus Crew
Wilfried Nancy is the hot favourite to become the new Celtic manager, which means the MLS could become an attractive market for the Hoops.
Columbus Crew have impressed under Nancy’s stewardship and a large part of that has been Yevgen Cheberko.

If Nancy were to join, the 27-year-old would be ready to come in and instantly adapt to the style of football and provide some expertise on the tactical set-up with the rest of the Celtic squad.
Bring Stephen Welsh back
There is an alternative option to going out and finding a centre-back, and that’s looking closer to home.
Stephen Welsh wasn’t in Celtic’s plans this season and was sent out on loan to Motherwell to play regular football.
Welsh has been in the Steelmen’s side, so he may have second thoughts about coming back to somewhere where he will play less but it would require no fees, or a settling-in period.
