Celtic return from the international break this weekend, meaning they are approaching the finish line of what has been a tumultuous 2025/26 campaign.

The Hoops have had three managers and been nowhere near their best for large portions of the season.

They can only win the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup but, with the league looking like a tall order, it will require everyone to step it up and show they can handle the pressure. With that, here are three players that need to have a big end to the season for Celtic.

Reo Hatate

Reo Hatate is consistently inconsistent and can be a real pain to watch at times. He proved that he is up to the task when Hatate patrolled the midfield well against Rangers but has failed to build on that.

With the World Cup coming up, this is the last chance for him to prove that he should be heading on the plane with Daizen Maeda and the rest of the Japan squad.

After not being included for the March internationals, perfect performances that will help Celtic win trophies and get him to a major tournament is vital.

Arne Engels

Someone in a very similar boat to Hatate is Arne Engels.

Engels returned to training just before the international break following a spell out with injury but now needs to step it up.

After rejecting bids from Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window, Celtic want performances that reflected the price tag of what the Reds were offering.

A spot in Belgium’s World Cup squad is also up for grabs, which could end up being his.

Tomas Cvancara

Goals have been the Bhoys’ Achilles heel this season and, even after bringing in fresh faces in January, that hasn’t been resolved.

Tomas Cvancara has been the best out of a bad bunch but has hardly been inspiring. Cvancara wants to stay with the Bhoys permanently but needs to do more.

If he can become a consistent finisher between now and the end of May, that may be enough to convince the club to keep him and give him an even bigger opportunity to become the next club hero.
